Where Ghana When 2022 Who Freedom Skatepark, Surfghana
The 500sqm “Freedom Skatepark”, which opened on the 15th December 2021, is the first Skatepark of Ghana and is placed in the capital Accra.
Accra is a huge and always moving city. Since 1957, Ghana celebrates its independence from the United Kingdom. Today it is one of the wealthiest and most modern cities in Africa continent.
But still, as it is with many cities, there are many slums, congestions, pollution and a desperate poverty. Just as it happens often, when the “big things” grow, small things can often be forgotten. To address this situation, Sandy Alibo and her two friends, Joshua Odamtten and Justice Kwofie started and are now directing the non- profit organization “Surf Ghana”.
The collective creates different concepts, to push the reputation of the Skate- Surf scene in Ghana worldwide. Such as the “Skate Gal Club” to empower women or organise a Skate Tour through Ghana to spread the love of skateboarding all over.
With their own Skatepark, they now have a place to meet and realise their concepts. A showplace and playground at the same time.
