In October 2025, Wonders Around the World completed the construction of Zimbabwe’s first skatepark in Victoria Falls. The project was delivered in collaboration with Push Project, a local charity run by Robby Kimmel that supports and empowers skateboarders in the area. Originally from the United States, Robby Kimmel moved to Victoria Falls and quickly noticed the lack of opportunities and recreational spaces for local youth. While significant resources were directed toward tourism, he felt that local children were being left behind. Inspired by the work of the Uganda Skateboard Society, Robby began bringing skateboards to the area and launched the Victoria Falls Skate Club, which he continues to run daily. For two years, the club skated on a small patch of concrete using homemade wooden ramps. Recognising the need for a permanent space, Robby reached out to Wonders Around the World for support in building Zimbabwe’s first skatepark. The skatepark forms part of a wider community initiative known as Samkele Park. Meaning “welcome” in Ndebele, Samkele Park was created as Victoria Falls’ first public park, free and accessible to all. The park features green spaces with trees, brick pathways, a calisthenics gym, a children’s play area, and now the country’s first skatepark. Located on the boundary between Victoria Falls’ low- and high-density neighbourhoods, Samkele Park is designed to bring together people from different social backgrounds, providing a shared space for exercise, recreation, and relaxation.
